Instagram Link Sticker 101

WHATS THIS STICKER?

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

HOW DO I USE IT!?

Yes, you heard that right! Instagram recently announced their newest update and it is one we have long been waiting for! Finally you can now use the infamous Instagram story link stickers in your stories, regardless of how many followers you have. This sticker that used to only be available to Instagram users with a minimum of 10K followers will now be available to everyone - whooooo! We are so excited for this new digital marketing feature and know this is such BIG NEWS for every small business owners and content creators hoping to grow their audience, affiliate marketing, partnerships, brand and business through Instagram. This sticker adds so many more opportunities to bring value to your stories and share all of your favourite things, all while keeping their business offers and products just one single “tap” away from all of their viewers, wow!

Now here’s the low down with these stickers:

Link stickers can now be added to any story you choose just like any other sticker, only they look more like a link icon showing the domain of the URL linked.

Where you can find the Instagram story link sticker:

  1. Choose a story to upload.

  2. Click the smiley face sticker square icon at the top and look for word LINK.

  3. Copy and paste your link into the blank space and click done.

  4. Tap the sticker to switch the text and colour, make bigger/smaller or drag around the screen.

Now that you have that link sticker, so long are the days of the arrow at the bottom of the “swipe up to read” screen, so make sure that you are creative and purposeful in how you draw people’s attention to your links. Here are some of our favourite ways to utilize this sticker to boost your Instagram strategy and engagement:

  • Use a GIF or arrow to highlight where your link is on the story page and what it is about. For example, a post about a holiday sweater you are selling could have a holiday GIF and a big red arrow pointing to the link to that sweater from your website.

  • Add text overlays and other PNG stickers on top of your original link to hide the typical link sticker and replace it with a more click-enticing and on-brand text. To do this you simply choose another sticker or type some more text, change the colours and fonts to keep them consistent with your brand, then move it over top of your link sticker. Although the link sticker is hidden underneath, it is absolutely still clickable to your viewers - don’t worry!

  • With this new link feature, viewers can now react and reply to your linked stories. So this means you have more creativity to stay on-brand in your stories and in turn increase your engagement with your audience, it’s a total win!

Remember that Instagram always rolls out their updates slowly, so keep updating your app if you don’t have this link sticker yet! If you have it, let us know in the comments how much you are loving it!
